Puppy Bowl Hits Ratings High With Latest Canine Competition

The Super Bowl wasn’t the only sporting event to hit a ratings high on Sunday.

Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl X,” the network’s counter-programming to the big game, also hit a personal best, drawing a record 13.5 million total viewers with its 12-hour marathon on Sunday.

The initial broadcast of the Puppy Bowl drew 3.2 million total viewers, a 24 percent leap over last year and the most-watched cable telecast on Sunday. In the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic, the Puppy Bowl drew 1.3 million total viewers, putting it in first place in its timeslot in all of cable and second overall behind only Fox, which was airing its own sporting competition.

The actual Super Bowl, which saw the Seattle Seahawks humiliate the Denver Broncos, drew an average 111.5 million total viewers, making it the most-watched television show in U.S. history.
