Michelle Obama, Will Ferrell Pull In 7.7 Million Viewers for Rising ‘Tonight Show’ (Updated)

Jimmy Fallon’s Thursday “Tonight Show” — which welcomed First Lady Michelle Obama and Will Ferrell — ticked up from Wednesday’s already- strong numbers to draw 7.7 million viewers.

That audience size represents an increase of 6 percent from Wednesday’s episode. The “Tonight Show” earned a 2.6 rating on Thursday in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, a 7 percent uptick from the prior evening.

“The Tonight Show” outperformed the combined results in total viewers of  CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” (2.7 million) and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (2.4 million) by about 51 percent (a rounded 7.7 million vs. a combined 5.1 million). In the demo, the NBC show’s 2.6 rating nearly doubled the combined results of Letterman (0.7) and Kimmel (0.7).

As has been the case throughout the week, “Tonight” started at midnight following a primetime lead-in from NBC’s Sochi Winter Olympics coverage. The 2014 Winter Games wrap up on Sunday, and “Tonight” has its regular 11:30 p.m. timeslot debut on Friday.
