“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” this weekend became the 10th highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office, passing “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”

Lionsgate’s Jennifer Lawrence sequel has grossed $423.6 million, ahead of the $423.3 million rung up by Disney’s Johnny Depp pirate tale in 2006.

It’s the first time that the first two installments of a franchise have grossed over $400 million at the domestic box office.  ”The Hunger Games” took in $408 million in 2012.

In addition to its domestic haul, “Catching Fire” has grossed an estimated $439.4 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $863 million, 25 percent higher than the first “Hunger Games,” which brought in $283 million from abroad.
