DreamWorks co-chairman and CEO Stacey Snider is being eyed for a top position at 20th Century Fox Studios, though no negotiations can take place unless she’s able to get out of her current contract, which runs through the end of 2014, individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

“The ball’s in her court,” one of the individuals said.

If she were to join Fox, the long-time executive would be tasked with providing creative oversight and playing traffic cop to Fox’s various production divisions, a group that includes Fox 2000, Fox Searchlight and Fox Animation. It’s a role similar to the one that former Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group President Jeff Robinov discussed taking with studio chief Jim Gianopulos, before talks broke down last year.

Though Fox’s interest is sincere, no negotiations are currently underway and talks cannot begin unless Snider extricates herself from her contract. DreamWorks and Fox both declined to comment.

Snider has a resume that would make her an ideal fit for the position. She’s well-acquainted with the workings of a major studio from her previous stints as chairman of Universal Studios and president of TriStar, and she’s worked with Fox before. The studio collaborated on DreamWorks’ “Lincoln” and remains involved on Steven Spielberg’s “Robopocalypse.”

Yet nothing is imminent, one individual with knowledge cautioned, nor is this the first time Snider’s name has been linked to a high-profile positions at studios such as Disney and Universal without a move ever taking place.

DreamWorks most recent films “Delivery Man” and “The Fifth Estate” were box office disappointments, though the studio has high hopes for its upcoming video game adaptation “Need for Speed,” which hits theaters next month.

The Hollywood Reporter first noted Fox’s interest in Snider.
