Katharine McPhee Joins CBS's ‘Scorpion’ Pilot

“Smash” vet Katharine McPhee has lined up a new TV gig.

The “American Idol” alum has signed on for the CBS drama pilot “Scorpion,” from Nick Santora (“Prison Break,” “Vegas”) and “NYPD Blue” alum Nicholas Wootton.

The pilot revolves around an eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses, who form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age. McPhee will star as Paige, a working-class hero and diner waitress who understands geniuses.

Santora and Wootton are writing and executive producing. Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious”) is directing the pilot as well as executive producing.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Heather Kadin are also executive producing through K/O Paper Products. Scooter Braun is also executive producing, with Danny Rose co-executive producing and Scott Manson producing.

The cast also includes Robert Patrick (“True Blood”), Elyes Gabel and Eddie Kaye Thomas are also cast in the pilot.
