“12 Years a Slave” has swept the Boston Online Film Critics Association awards, the BOFCA announced on Saturday.

The awards were the first critics victory for Steve McQueen’s harrowing drama, which went into awards season a presumed favorite. In the last week, it had been passed over for the top honor by the Gotham Awards, the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review, which gave their best-picture awards to “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “American Hustle” and “Her,” respectively.

But “12 Years a Slave” was named Best Picture by the 17-member critics’ group, and also won awards for best director (McQueen), actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), supporting actress (Lupita Nyong’o), editing and original score.

In other categories, the BOFCA went with favorites down the line: Cate Blanchett for best actress for “Blue Jasmine,” Jared Leto for supporting actor for “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Blue Is the Warmest Color” for foreign-language film, “The Act of Killing” for documentary” and a tie between “Frozen” and “The Wind Rises” for animated film.

The only real surprises came on the group’s 10-best list, which included “The Spectacular Now,” “Spring Breakers” and “The World’s End” but not “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “Nebraska” or “Her.”

Also on the list of 10: “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Gravity,” “Before Midnight,” “Blue Is the Warmest Color” and “Fruitvale Station.”
