‘Good Day New York’ Tops ‘GMA,’‘Today’ in Key News Demo for March

“Good Day New York” was king-of-the-hill, top-of-the-heap among the Big Apple's morning news shows in March, beating out both ABC's “Good Morning America” and NBC's “Today” in the key news demo among New Yorkers for the month.

WNYW Fox 5's “Good Day New York” took top honors for the March in the key 25-54 news demographic, averaging 120,000 viewers in the demo during the 7 to 9 a.m. timeslot. “Good Morning America” took second place in the demo, averaging 119,700 demo viewers. “Today” took third with 107,000 demo viewers.

In the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers, “Good Day New York” likewise came out on top, averaging a 1.214 for March sweeps, versus a .910 for “Today” and .879 for “Good Morning America.”

The March period marks the first time that “Good Day New York” took top honors for a sweep in the 25-54 demo since the launch of local people meters in 2004, and also the first time that the show has beat out “Good Morning America.”

In total viewers, however, “Good Day New York” took third place, averaging 169,800 total viewers, compared to 369,300 for first-place “Good Morning America” and 267,800 for “Today.”
