The terror and destruction in “Godzilla” will only be met by humanity's courage. But the 350-foot-tall monster will probably destroy most of that, too.

A new preview (above) that Legendary released on Friday features the usual disaster imagery associated with the Japanese creation, set to the tune of an inspirational speech from a U.S. military admiral, played by David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck”).

“I realize not all of you have had hands on experience. None of us have ever faced a situation quite like this one,” Strathairn's character says. “I know many of you have family and loved ones still in the city. Their courage will never be more needed than it is today.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) plays one of the brave soldiers being addressed, while Elizabeth Olsen (“Oldboy”) plays his loved one, who is trying to survive Godzilla's assault on San Francisco, along with a scientist played by Bryan Cranston.

Director Gareth Edwards’ take on “Godzilla” hopes to destroy the box office when Warner Bros. unleashes the beast in theaters on May 16.
