“Sons of Anarchy” might be riding into the sunset at the end of its next season, but series creator Kurt Sutter is working on a new project for the drama’s network FX.
Sutter and Brian Grazer are developing a new series, “The Bastard Executioner,” which has received a pilot order from FX.

The new project will revolve around a warrior knight in King Edward III’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.
Sutter is writing the project, and executive producing with Grazer. Francie Calfo is also executive producing.

Production on the pilot is scheduled for 2014.
Fox 21 and FX Productions are producing the project.
“Sons of Anarchy” wrapped its sixth season on Tuesday, amassing 6.4 million total viewers — the most-watched finale in the series’ history.
Deadline first reported the news of Sutter’s new project.
Citing Sutter’s long association with the network, FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf called the pilot “deep, provocative and historically precise.”
“For 13 years at FX, starting as a writer and working his way up to an executive producer on ‘The Shield,’ then as creator/executive producer of ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ Kurt has interwoven literary and pulp storytelling within two of the most successful series in cable history,” Landgraf said. “Now he has conceived a deep, provocative and historically precise narrative journey into our Medieval past– and I have no doubt The Bastard Executioner will be another remarkably original and gripping series. We’re also thrilled to be in business with Brian Grazer who is one of the most gifted film and television producers in the business. FX and FXP have had great fortune with our studio partner Fox 21 and we’re happy to extend our relationship with Dana Walden, Gary Newman and Bert Salke.”
Sutter simply added, “I love the network. I love the world. I love the blood.”
