Robin Roberts kicked off Monday’s “Good Morning America” by filling viewers in on her winter vacation, and reminding them that she has a girlfriend named Amber, in the process.
The anchor — who publicly acknowledged her lesbian partner for the first time at the end of December via a Facebook post — told her co-anchors that the highlight of her vacation was her niece’s wedding, which she attended with Amber.
“The family was all together in Baton Rouge over the weekend, and we have a family photo,” Roberts said before proceeding to identify those pictured (above). “Next to me is my girlfriend, Amber.”

Co-anchor George Stephanopoulos noted her coming out was “no surprise” to the “GMA” team, but said he hoped “it was a good experience” for her.
“I’m going to tell you all this, because you have had a front row seat for that tumultuous year,” Roberts said. “I have never been happier or healthier than I am right now.”
Her comments were met with applause from the studio.
“My year-end post was just full of gratitude and just telling everyone all that I’m grateful for, including my girlfriend, Amber, who really loved me through a very difficult year,” Roberts continued. “I’m very happy for the support.”
Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disease, in June of 2012, and took a medical leave from “GMA” to receive treatment, which included a life-saving bone marrow transplant in September.
The ABC morning news program welcomed Roberts back last February.
