Sony Pictures has hired NBCUniversal executive Jean Guerin to handle media relations for its film division, according to two individuals with knowledge of her plans. Guerin fills the spot vacated by Steve Elzer, the longtime Sony executive who lost his job late last year.

Guerin previously handled communications for NBCUniversal’s cable channels, including Bravo, USA, E! and Syfy. Before that she ran communications for USA.

Guerin will report to Charles Sipkins, the former Sard Verbinnen executive who oversees communications for all of Sony Pictures Entertainment and reports to CEO Michael Lynton. SPE operates many different divisions, all of which have their own teams under the broader SPE banner.  Guerin oversees film while Fritz Friedman handles home entertainment and Paula Askanas handles television.

Guerin will take over in time to handle communications as Sony releases four different movies in February, including George Clooney’s “Monuments Men” and the “Robocop” reboot. Sony had a rough summer at the box officer last year, but this year’s slate includes sequels to “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “21 Jump Street” and “Think Like a Man.”

Sony declined to comment on the hire.
